My montipora seems sick ; a white spot appeared about a month ago and is spreading (I only have a shrimp and a crab in my tank right now, so I don't think it's eaten). Should I frag it and only keep the healthy part to stop the spread? Can a dip (and with what) stop it ?

Unfortunately, just fragging a coral won't help it survive if the conditions aren't corrected that caused it to STN in the first place. SPS require rock solid parameters which requires testing and more testing, and dosing if necessary. Is your alkalinity stable? SPS hate alk swings. Since you don't have fish and the tank is fairly new, are you feeding the coral?

I've used Revive to dip my SPS with great results, but dipping won't help if the issue is related to water chemistry.

On the bright side, Montipora is a great beginner coral, and should recover once your parameters are in line. Good luck.

Thanks. I feed my corals about every other day, alternating between foods. I don't really test my alkalinty ; I thought that you didn't need to do it in saltwater if your other specs we're stable, and they are. I'll look into it. Thanks again.

My montipora don't seem to get better. I'm due for a water change. I'll see how it goes. I've lost my emerald crab yesterday and I don't know why...
