Im going today to buy an anemone. I have three clowns now (long story.) they are all juveniles and get along well. Question is while I'm there do I pick up a forth juvenile clown to make two pairs?
They have all been in the tank about 3 months.

Open to thoughts and ideas. Thanks.

your three clowns get along fine now, but they won't for long. a fourth would only make things worse. more than two clowns might work in a very large tank, but usually two will pair and the other will be done for.

I wouldnt. Rarely 3 will get along usually 1 female takes over and they leave the third alone for the most part in case something happens to one of the pair they have another mate. A lfs had a trio of clowns in a 60 cube together for past 10 years no issues. Than one day the main male died and the other just slid in like nothing happened.

I saw a 180 gallon tank, 6' width, with two pairs of ocillarus clowns. The pairs set up their home bases about 4' apart. But that did not prevent the biggest female from constantly beating up the other pair. Seeing that makes me wonder just how big of a tank you need for two pairs of clowns to exist in harmony.

Thanks for all the pointers. I decided to just go with three and see where that brings me. Lfs here also has three in an established tank and say when the female dies everyone basically moves up the chain.

You will lose one or one will badly abuse the other. Multiple clowns are possible but you would need a lot more than 3 or 4.
