I certainly have a 40 cube with two clownfish, starry blenny, royal gamma and cardinal fish. Problem is I’ve read a lot of horror story about them so I’m not sure what to do any suggestions.

People post the horror stories. They don't post when things are running just fine and status-quo. I've had my six for almost 5 years now, and it's never bothered anyone except the bugs, amphipods and bristle worms.

If it's the 'new guy', I don't think you have much to worry about.

They get quite aggressive. If you want something that looks similar take a look at the pink streaked wrasse. It's very peaceful and, in my opinion, prettier.

I'm gonna watch this thread as I've been considering getting a six line for my IM Nuvo 40, but was worried about some of the aggression horror stories, especially since they are notoriously difficult to catch.

Any recommendations for a similar wrasse that will still help out with pest control?

I don’t see anything wrong with adding one. They do like to swim and swim.

Mine doesn’t bother anything other than the food I feed them!!

In my experience a PSW has all of the positives of a six line and none of the potential negatives.

I would find another fish. Consider that if the fish becomes problematic you will most likely have to move your scape around to catch the fish for removal. As previously posted there are better choices. :)

Definitely avoid. 6 lines are just too big of a gamble and can be a pain to remove. Pink Streaked is a much better choice or a Halichoeres (ie Yellow, Red Lined).

Seems like too small a tank with a lot of tank mates already. Wrasses need a lot of swimming room. They are great at pest control though.

I have 3 tanks and have a Six line in each tank. Never been a problem for me. Great for pest control. In my big tank I have the six line in with several other wrasses without issues. Six line is probably the least aggressive of all my wrasses. I've heard the horror stories but haven't experienced that myself.

My six line wrasse was doing just fine. Friendly and swam a lot. Swam I say? Yes. Unfortunately I discovered it missing this afternoon and after some hard looking I found him on the floor behind the tank. They are jumpers so make sure you cover your tank. I have ordered a diy kit today since I recently upgraded my lighting and removed my biocube lid. R.I.P. little guy

Wait until it's the last fish your going to add.

It is one of those 50/50 chances. If you are not willing to take your rock out to catch it if it turns aggressive... then pick something else. If you don't mine taking all the rock out and really like sixlines, then go for it.
