I've always loved goniopora but was too scared to try. But recently at my Lfs, I found a beautiful red goniopora. Its a small red goniopora about the size of a Gatorade bottle cap for $35. Its been in the LFS for over a month and my tank has been up for over a year.

Any advice or care?

My stats are:
Nitrate 1-5
Nitrite/ammonia 0
dkH 8-9
Cal 420
Mg 1305
I add AF amino mix, AF build, and AF micro E

I also dose the big three for which are used in coral growth.

I my experience it depends on where they come from I guess. I got two from this basement guy and both died really fast. Never had good polyp extension. They didn't really look to healthy in his tank either thinking back but at the time I didn't know much about them.

I then got one from this fish store in nj and they told me it was a aussie and that has been in my tank since may. Nothing special just dropped it in and forgot about it. If it looks healthy for 35 bucks go for it.

thanks for the advice "dancingshark" the majestic lawnmower blenny. I think ill give it a try when I get some more money (Totally didn't blow it on a giant sized coral). I'll go for it. It has nice polyp extension. Have no idea where its from though. But they're my fav LPS so F it. I hope it will do as good as my cup coral. Can you give me advice on its growth rate?

Go cheep/small and grow it out and if it dies you are not out much money. That’s what I have done and haven’t lost one yet out of three. I think they get used to your feeding and don’t starve as easily when they are baby’s instead of getting a nice big one that has been heavily fed.

But yes get one! Between those and Alveopora they make me so happy. Just like a bunch of flowers

They can look really nice but I hear so many bad stories with them. I have a tiny patch of red mini gonipora and it has not grown at all in over a year now. Everything else just grows and grows.

Unless you get an aquacultured piece, there is little chance of long term survival, no matter how good it looks at time of purchase
