Should I HP bomb my GHA?

It is amazing how much accumulating dissolved organic material and bacteria accumulates in our reef systems. Skimmer works very well. You can run them with a dry skin or wet. As vibrant (bacteria) eats the organic crap in the tank it starves the algae. Then the algea breaks down and the skinner helps to remove it from water column. Otherwise it will be food to feed the algea always available in a healthy reef ecosystem.

Yeah I went ahead and bought a skimmer just now! Without water changes, I have to find ways of taking nutrients out of the tank. (Preferably not by growing algae and manually removing it!) The skimmer is probably much needed on this tank! 8 months with ever increasing bio-load and never a water change! I'll probably get a lot of brown out of it!

Yeah the h2o2 would have been totally unnatural. Lol. Generally against what I would do but I figured I could either reach in and grab the algae or maybe the HP could do a better job.

Technically, no the OCEAN doesn't, but reefs definitely do get a WC, fresh SW is brought in and currents and wave action push water full of waste it toward the shore where it gets "Skimmed" persay or fuels algae. Or it gets taken out to deeper waters where there are a lot of methods of things getting removed ... if you take a square foot of Reef and say open a small bottle of food colouring over it, it's going to disappear, QUICKLY, the coloured water is exchanged with fresh salt water from the currents. Therefor the reef itself is under a constant water change. Water is constantly moving removing waste from corals and constantly supplying fresh elements. We can't replicate this in our tanks so we make up for it with equipment and water changes.

Anyway, best of luck on your setup, I highly advise you stay clear of any chemicals, especially Hydrogen Peroxide of you want to stick to the no WC approach.

Well the way I see it, the ocean also has a lot of seaweed. That's the chaeto! So the best I can do to emulate what you're talking about is running the water into a sump full of chaeto and then pumping that back in. Might not be perfect but I think it's pretty close!

Yeah but in theory it doesn't have to be. I'm still trying to get my chaeto to work better!

And yes it's a good skimmer but to be fair I did get a little help from the guy who helps me with the plumbing and stuff. I'm pretty good with my biology but not the plumbing/equipment side of the hobby...just yet anyways!

That is a solid skimmer for that size tank. My favorite brand.

Better than bombing. Take the rocks out one by one and scrub them with a brush and some H2O2. Kill the GHA where it attaches to the rock.
