So I’ve had my Duncan in this spot for about a week. It looks healthy and opens and closes depending on lighting. Usually pretty open during the day. But It seems like it was much more open in the LFS where I got him. Here are pics of now and from LFS. He’s in the sand but I’m wondering if I need to move him up on the rock work.

What size tank? What lighting was the LFS using and what lights are you using?

Honestly, I think what you're doing is perfect. I got my duncan with three heads. I initially placed it in the sand bed and moved it up to the final location after 2-3 months. This is what it looks like now:

didn’t see a pic come through. But yeah I was thinking I should stop being impatient and let it adapt. I know lots of people keep them in the sandbed. I’ll leave it for now and give it a week or two more. I mean it looks healthy and vibrant during the day.

You can't see the pic? They're pretty hardy....just give them some time in the sand :)

It looks pretty happy. I'd watch out that the sand isn't irritating it or cutting off circulation to coral tissue.

You could feed it meaty foods to help energize it. Mine perk up after water changes and moderate direct flow.

it gets probably a lighter flow but I have been giving it Mysis 2-3 times a week and just started with reef roids. They are due for a feeding tomorrow. They do seem to like it. I also have the sand just barely covering the frag plug so it’s not deep in the sand at all

Mine loves being fed, lots of flow, and moderate light. I think it does better when not being bothered by sand though.
