I have been playing with the idea of running carbon in a reactor. I already run GFO and love its effects. I see people running carbon and have crystal clear tanks with it. Is there any other benifits? I read it can help fight against certain types of algae.

IMO carbon helps in a mixed reef with warfare especially with leathers. Also really cleans water up a lot and removes a lot of stuff. I run it regularly and see good results but some others only run for short periods. Just have to see how works with your tank. All tanks are different for sure, what works for one will not always work for the other.

IMO, any effects against algae are minimal. I use it, and the main reasons are reducing the yellowing of the water and reducing organic toxins. It may also export useful amounts if undesirable trace metals that are bound to organics.

One potential con is the hypothesis that tiny bits if GAC may contribute to HLLE disease in fish, so I recommend an acid washed GAC suck as ROX carbon.
