I’m on the fence about whether I should or shouldn’t put my mandarin in quarantine he looks fat and active and I got him from a reputable lfs. The reason i don’t feel comfortable quarantining him is because the medication would kill any pods I would put in and my quarantine tank is only 5g so kinda small and I’m not sure if it’s exactly stable and from what I read mandarins don’t take medication to well what should I do I’m leaning to just putting him straight into the display tank

If you are going for ich eradication, you should QT. I would recommend TTM h2o2 hybrid method for a mandarin.

It’s a risk, but maybe less of a risk with the mandys slime coat, they are not the most ick prone fish.
I went straight to the DT as my QT’s not the best place for this fish.

Biggest mistake I ever made was to put a mandarin into my DT directly from the LFS. It’s the first fish I didn’t QT for all the reasons cited and it brought disease and multiple fish deaths to my tank. Don’t do it is you have a tank full of fish you don’t want to lose. Please see my build thread for a pic of the mandarin. They can be QT’d, just modify. Don’t add medications just add pods so it can eat. And add a lot because they need a lot. Observational QT for at least a month to make sure they didn’t come diseased and that they’re eating. If it does chances are it would’ve died in your DT too. I lost many of my favorite fish and it was heartbreaking. It’s been 3-4 months since our last fish death but eradicating the unknown illness from our 125 mixed reef was a nightmare and we ended up losing coral too. I finally have several fish in my observational QT, treating prophylactically for internal parasites. Everyone is healthy, active and eating well. I will never risk not QTing again. Not worth it
