I'm thinking about starting a business to sell critter and hitchhiker mystery box. It would be some good stuff some bad stuff and really just any hitchhikers that I get I will put in a box with a rock and send them off. Thinking about it some more it sounds like an awful idea but kind of cool at the same time! I want to know what y'all think

I’d skip “bad” stuff entirely.

You might have a hard time - there are several folks already established in this area with a consistent supply system and lots of experience with marketing and shipping that you’ll be playing catch up on.

Maybe try this local with in-person trades before going into shipping animals that drop dead if you look at them wrong.

I think this sounds better

Who does this? I might be looking to buy!

I might try that too. There's not many in person aquarium things where I live unfortunately though :(

Reefcleaners.org is one I’ve used, I’ve also seen KP Aquatics mentioned here, among others from time to time.

You could probably aquaculture micro brittles, stomellas, strombus, etc. There is a market for those.

Bristle worms, asternia stars spagetti worms, etc would also be worth offering but some people want these, and some don't.

Trochus snails can also be aquacultured but they are slow growers so you will want to be upfront about their size.

I would keep the tanks fishless with their own equiptment for changing water/testing so you can say they are disease free.

You could add desirable macro algae people like to buy which then would come with pods.

It would take up tanks and space and time though and be an investment.

This is a company that sells some of these things:
