Should I throw out these polyps/palys???

these polyps came along with a frag a bought at my LFS. Gal at the store said they were some sort of paly. Said store doesn’t sell/have a ton of palys, they have some green ones (think the highly toxic kind), and a brown kind they call “trash polyps” (LFS says they are also very toxic). I think the ones I got were of the later variety. . . Should I keep them or toss them

They may look nicer under blue lights. They're isolated now so you might as well take a flyer on them for now).

just a little update : Unfortunately they look brown under blue light. . . Looking sort of tan/white under my regular lighting:

I moved these a while back, they’re not sitting under the most ideal coral lighting, but I tried to tweak the LEDs as best I could. Anyway they’ve kind of taken on a white appearance and have gotten a bit bigger

Ehhh, I am a big zoa / paly head but personally those aren't my cup of tea. I would toss them in a safe, secure manner OR give them away to someone who would appreciate them

The shape is kinda nice, but there are cooler ones of that shape, and those do look to be a toxic species. You could try to find a place to give them away, and if no luck there, just toss them. Preferably wrapped in a lot of plastic bags.

They might color up over time, I had some zoas that used to be brown and its slowly turning blue

That can definitely happen, but "trash palys" are called that for a reason. They never turn out looking especially nice, compared to some of the other options. Best only kept if you like the look of the blotches and tentacles.

Most likely they're the type that'll stay brown. I had a massive colony of them that came as hitchhikers. I was happy to get rid of them.

Save the rock. Remove the palys...carefully.

yeah that is true, I never really had experiences with palys so that most likely is the case

I would toss them, I had a some of those and they grew fast and started covering and out competing other corals

I would deffenitly remove, they don't look pretty under blue or white, you have been advised they could be toxic/ poisonous and you are unsure about species lol.

Better now than in 2 months when your aquarium is full of them and you can not control

Wish I had a coral that would grow that fast in 2 months... lol maybe I should take it?

I do like the shape of them. Something doesn't have to be the prettiest thing in the world to have a place in your tank, it just has to be something you like having in there.

those look like "arctic ice" palys, i would very recommend getting rid of them. as time goes on, your tank will settle, you'll find yourself getting some nems, nicer coral, stuff you'll actually enjoy looking at. These will impede on your ability to do so, they have a habit of taking over a tank and ruining whatever scape you'll have, until you make a post a few months from now asking how to get rid of them once they've covered a good chunk of your rock and glass.

also all zoas/palys have the potential to be toxic, i think that button palys are the ones with the most potent palytoxin
