I need to know if there is someone here that can help with this question. First the skimmer I currently have is very good I have a MRC-2R. This thing is a beast and doe a great job. My concern is Electricity usage because this skimmer requires an extremely high power pump to operate. I currently use a Blue line pump the 200PS model and according to my Apex it is using 265 watts of electric. Looking at all of these new skimmers with DC pumps it looks like I could have a skimmer that only requires 40 watts to operate. So my question is what would that 225 watts running 24 hours 365 days a year cost. Looking at my electric bill this month I paid $425.33 for 4137 KWH. I have no idea what the formula would be to figure this out?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank You

Round and rough numbers assuming you run your skimmer 24/7...for a 30 day month...
  • Current skimmer is using 190 Kwh/month
  • DC pump at 40w would use 29 Kwh/month
  • You're paying roughly $.10/Kwh.
Current skimmer is costing you $19/month and a DC pump (at 40 watts) would be $2.90, so a $16.10 savings monthly.

That's my guess but I'm no expert.

Thank You that helps. In 3 years that would pay for a $600.00 skimmer.
