I was wondering, should I use a white or blue light on my reef tank. I’m going to add clownfish and some beginning corals in less than a week, and I’m not sure what light color to use.

Do you already have a light? I'm confused on the question.
I use white and blue lights, and violet and light blue and red and green.

I have the light that came with my aquarium, and it has a button that turns it blue or white, and I’m not sure which color would be best for my future fish and corals

Probably need a new light for coral. This lights are good for fish only.

What size tank and what corals are you planning to keep? I agree with others, that if the light came with the tank and only has two color options, then it’s not a light you’ll want to use for corals.
I would suggest that you watch the BRS series on reef keeping and I would also suggest that you buy a book on reef keeping as well.

I have a fluval five gallon tank, and I bought a NICREW 50 watt reef aquarium light but it seems to powerful and hot for such a small tank, do you think it would work?

That light should work nicely, just reduce the intensity and you'll be fine. I would rent or borrow a par meter so you know how much light you have hitting the tank.
