I don't know the answer thought that Randy would.
Here is what I did and with pictures for the bulkhead on my aquarium I used plumbers putty for the top gasket so there is a little bit exposed for the water to make contact. I am wondering if I should worry long term as it was the only solution to stop the leak due to a oversized condition.

I would be concerned with what chemicals will leach out of the putty and into the water.

Thank You Randy I am not good when it comes to the things that you are so proficient in but thank you for it because I always know where to go with my questions and just to learn.
On a little different subject didn't you have a formula for a diy alkalinity standard?

Rubber gasket should go on the flange side, why do you need the putty?
The plumber's putty is the gasket. The hole in the glass is oversize and the Bulkhead is NFG so the plumbers party makes up for the imperfections in the bulkhead. The gasket that goes on top in most cases (u are right) is on the bottom.

Like a charm my good friend who is a retired plumber steamfitter did it for me dam I would have made a mess lol

The safety data sheet wouldn't indicate a substantial issue, IMO:

3. COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
Chemical Name
Calcium Carbonate 60-100%
Kaolinite, Hydrous Aluminum Silicate 5-10 %
Quartz 1-5 %
Petroleum-based Lubricating Oil 1-5 %
Randy is there anything here to suggest that the putty might be a source of my metal problems ?

The kaolinite in the putty may contribute silica and aluminum to the water.

If soft corals like leathers are OK, I would not do anything about it at the moment.

This is a new tank and I am new to the Triton Method. The cycle finished the beginning of May and I started the Triton Method and added the corals that needed to come out of a frag tank that needed to be shut down due not being able to take care of both on May 9th.
The same one from my other post on Mag being High.
