I have had gen 2 radions on my 180g tank for a long time now and all my corals have grown and looked very good under them.
I have the opportunity to switch the gen 2s out for a set of gen 3s or gen 4s non pros.

The problem is-since everything has been going so well I'm actually afraid to switch them "if it ain't broke dont fix it", right?

What's everyone's take on this

I would look at it this way.
The gen 2's have no upgrade future like they used to be.
They are older. Although I still see people using gen 1's occasionally.

They still have some re-sale value.
I think I would jump on some gen 4's and try and get as much for the gen 2's to help with the upgrade cost.

I wouldn’t change to 3’s. I recently upgraded from 3’s to gen 4 pros. Big big difference. I am very happy with them.

How long have you had them? Leds don't last forever, if you've had them for over 5 years then I'd consider the upgrade

don't do it. Every time i muck with things when its going good i end up with problems for like 6 months till it all settles out. If you are happy with your current lights, why switch?
That is my thoughts as well.
Mostly considering switching because I have the option of going with gen 3s or 4s over this tank currently.

The situation is this. I have 3 gen 2s, 3 gen 3's, and 3 gen 4s. I need 3 over this tank and 4 over my other tank. The other 2 will get resold.
The tank I need 3 over has been up a long time and was restart 2 years ago after losing everything due to a hurricane. The other tank I lost everything as well the same time, but I'm just now getting corals back into that tank (it's been "running" but just with a few fish I got and rock-coukdnt afford to get both tanks restocked at once)

The gen 3s cant be updated either. But even my gen 2s do work...Very well, as is.

Other than different spread-what other difference did you notice? Did you use your same gen 3 schedule on the 4s? How did your corals respond? And is your tank mostly sps lps or soft?
Thanks for your input

Had these for few years. But I'm not that worried about it. LEDs last a long long time.

That's why I said to go with the gen 4's.
And as long as the gen 2's are doing great, there is re-sale value now, that disappears when they aren't working.
If you have working gen 3's, sell them too.
Go with the latest, greatest now.

I'd recommend the G4 Pros. Match your intensity and spectrum and then ramp to the new capabilities.

I would swap to the Gen 4s and just match you settings and par numbers.

I agree with your original statement. " if it aint broke then dont fix it "
