how would they starve haha more likely to starve in a bigger thank than this tank + this is the biggest tank i can have see that the electricity box is to the left of this tank and i would not be able to get into it if i upgraded
You would assume that but actually a larger tank will sustain microfauna that a small tank won’t have. We can load our tanks with everything but actually very few 4’ tanks have 1000s of sponges, a load of microalgae to feed from and other natural food sources.
i have no problem with food i mean mandarins/pipefish are abit funny i use to add 80 to 100 bags of pods a month for the pipefish it still died don't know if it was starvation or something else but its gone now + i use to dose the green stuff cnt remember its nameI have cared for god knows how many rare fish after working in an LFS and here’s what I will say about rare;
It may be good and bring attraction to your tank but is it actually worth it?
I currently own multiple rare-uncommon fish and out of those 8-9, only two are actually relatively easy to care for. Even then those 2 have their own difficulties with Jumping and venom.
The others are difficult for a multitude of reasons;
Feeding
Settling them into captivity
Keeping them disease free
Keeping them fat
Not having them get outcompeted for anything
Hard to actually keep in the tank
In the grand scheme of things, rare isn’t always good. It may be fun to look at a tank full of rare fish and corals but just think of how much effort is actually put into keeping them thriving. Yes I love my CBB and say it’s easy but in the background, I’m replenishing pods on a weekly basis, I’m always feeding huge amounts into both tanks and more. It’s only easy because I’m keeping ontop of alive foods and feeding much more than just mysis and brine.
This is just the top draw of my freezer.
You’ll find with more rare pod eaters like Pseudojuloides, Halichoeres and Macropharyngodon wrasses you’ll end up in the same loop hole in the long run. Rare fish really aren’t always worth the hassle unless you’re definitely willing to go through everything including the stress phase where rare fish are likely to be under the most risk of death.
They’re a pain with QT but Cirrhilabrus rhomboidalis is relatively easy once eating and settled.

I don’t think anyone in the UK has a flame anymore, but also the flame was almost never on the market over here anyway and when it was they usually died in the LFS.If you can find an old salt with a Hawaiian flame wrasse he would sell, that would be rare
I am also curious on what happened with this species, I wonder if our importers noticed how badly they do in shipment and just stopped importing them unless people specifically want them.
Pencils are uncommon over here, but then again, most wrasses outside of Pseudocheilinus are uncommon species.
