I believe Opsanus tau

We just call him "the creature"

We've had him since September of 2016 - photo below is the day I found him swimming around in the box of rocks we had just picked up from the airport.

I had gotten one of those, about 7 inch back in 1988. First time seeing one since. I came to the conclusion it was a cooler water species. But didnt know.

They're tough - I think they live anywhere from Chesapeake bay are down to southern Florida.

This particular one came from the Gulf of Mexico somewhere outside of Tampa.

His tank is plumbed in with my frag tank so the water is pretty much a constant 77-78.

Oyster Toadfish - almost 12" long now.

Came in as a hitch hiker on TBS Rock - he was about 2" when we first got him.

He currently resides in his very own 180 gallon tank - anything that goes in the tank goes in his mouth.

He pulled the magnetic glass cleaner off and swam around with it in his mouth the other day.

That is by far the coolest TBS hitchhiker I know of. @liverock

Definitely, in fact he has potential to be a fish actually sold at a lfs one day... A very good opportunity to set up a species specific tank

Now who could say no to that face. Nothing beats the classic porcupine puffer

mostly human grade seafood - oysters, clams, shrimp, squid.

Usually pulled out of the shells - he can get an oyster shelled if he needs to.

I typically only feed him about twice a week - 3 or 4 pieces of seafood, anywhere from 1/2" to 1" long.

This video of feeding time is from about 2 years ago.

So cool. And kind of wild that he came in as a hitchhiker! Thanks for sharing!

I have always wondered what would happen if you kept a cuc of longspined urchins with the Tusk would he go after the urchins?

I have the porcupine and a harlequin tusk. Yes, it's near impossible lol.

It is fun to watch the natural behavior. I also laugh at night when I hear a crunch from the other room because I know the puffer just found another snail.

Get a small tusk and place CUC in tank first. They learn to accept them. Of course, keep the fish fed

You may need to start him off with something live. Try some live mollies. Once he eats a couple of times and settles in, they wil usually start eating a variety of chunky food.

I have an Asutralian Tusk....he's been in for about 4 months now. He eats shrimp (both established and new) but leaves everything else alone(turbo snails, hermits, conch, etc). He eats large chunks of LRS and clams on the half shell. Absolutely amazing fish. The Tangs in the tank keep him inline.
