It's pretty sad when someone's freaking qt is bigger and better than my dt

The comment of the day just got better than my QT.

My second round of QT'ing Coral
15 gallon
Fluval 30 HOB
Top fin heater
Cheap nano power head
USA Orbit Marine LED
Coral life Thermometer
Black Egg crate DIY frag rack...
Rock from my DT

Three weeks ago

Pictures are out of order sorry. This is now by current Coral qt it's a 4x2x12 tank with 2 t5 and a powerful led blue strip. All corals get 2 months of dips every week to 10 days apart. No skimmer. Just filter sock and bio media block in the sump. Then corals get monitored for 3 months after.

Pic below. This was the first qt so I could fit a lot and get coral into the display. Same process as above but tank was 6x3x12 now it is my frag tank and now plumbed into the display tank.

Thx. I have no cuc in the qt. I leave it not lite if no corals are in the qt tank. Every now and then I ghost feed the qt just to keep something goin in the qt. I need to start another round of qt soon but I have been busy.

I will get a picture of the display later today. I haven't taken a full tank shot in a while. The display is pretty new. I would post my build thread link but it is on another site. If u search same screen name on that other large community site u can find my build thread. My fish room is 22x12 feet . display is in main room all Plumbing and equipment goes through the wall to the fish room.

Here is the other tanks I'm running also. No they r not frag tanks. Each tank has its own type of coral. One is a Zoa tank another is a mushroom yum Ric tank, another is a nem tank with a harem of clowns, then a softy tank, also 2 lps tanks that's the right side. The tank at the end is the frag tank. The take to the left is the current qt tank.

Oh my!! That's one nice set up Roger. I would definitely be interested in reading all about your system as I'm sure others would. Is there anyway you can copy and paste a new thread here at R2R? I'm sure a lot of people would be interested.

I don't really mess much with SPS anymore, but the below 29 gal "fishless" frag tank serves my purposes well for softies/LPS/inverts. I place all corals/inverts in here for 76 days before they go into my DT. Just cheap T5 lighting, Koralia powerhead, HOB powerfilter, heater, rock/sand and a frag rack gets the job done.

No need to start one from scratch a few pics of the build on a single post and couple of pics of how tankvand sump looks now woth an equipment and fish list and Voila build thread!
Going forward u can copy paste updates on both ur build threads. More input is always beneficial and double the compliments is always nice

Softies will be good of the back and LPS after a month or two but take your time.

Please explain why LPS need to be in a 1-2 mth old system to be acceptable? If all parameters are good (within the acceptable range) weekly water changes, what is different in 3 weeks than 8 weeks or 6 mths?
Reason I ask is none of my Fragtoberfest Zoas have opened and shrinking. I feed ReefRoids and all but everything else is fat and happy. What is missing from my water?

Same as a DT tank it need to mature a little as corals not only living on nutrients but consuming bacteria too.
With a new system you water might be great but the bacteria level is low for short term success.
Yes there are exception as I have seen it all, ppl cycle through a tank they think in a week and add corals to it with good results.
But many time we get questions like your "why are my zoa's closed up, my brain is shrinking, the rics are losing coral, birdnest stn from bottom"
I can go on and on but for a QT system on corals you better take you time.
The advice I give is from personal experience and see others making the mistake but don't get me wrong many advice we give here is not how you have to do it.
By making your own mistakes you learn a lot quicker.
35 years ago some told me to cycle your tank you add some pee to your water as that is a form of ammonia, I laughed but I went home and did it.
It was the best cycle I ever had but my last form of cycling too as I discovered that they sell ammonia in small bottles that time at the drug store.
Note to this is I was living in old world Europe and just started to get into the salty side of this hobby after years in freshwater.
