What a killer reef! I like what you did with the molding on the top of the canopy, you get a little more height but it doesn't look like a huge block. I much prefer the slimmer canopies(looks better and more room to get in the tank) but on the other hand I would like to block as much light as possible.I'll play...
No worries, mine is almost a year old and it's still pretty empty. A 6" tank is great and all, but I didn't anticipate how expensive it would be to fill it with fish and corals.Only 6 months old so excuse the emptiness

Yea that canopy he has is really clean looking.
My cap came w the tank and stand, it serves the purpose for now but Im upgrading the lighting this fall (hopefully), two Orphek compacts w/ T5s sandwiching those, so I need to figure out a cap that keeps the light pollution down, but I’m able to remove to maintain the tank. I’m thinking a pulley type of system, w/ the lights mounted in the canopy. W/ the tank in my basement the current cap is good for at least 5 degrees in temp, so I need to mimick that as much as I can.

I made a temporary one out of .026 stucco embossed aluminum, for my 8 x 80 watt ATI T5 fixture.
It's really light weight. The whole thing weighs probably 2-3 lbs.
I was going to use some smooth 22 gua. aluminum from Lowes, but it was in the $32 range.
I had this already at home.
I made it so it blocks the light spill when you are looking at the tank while standing.
If you are sitting, then it would have to be a total enclosed canopy.
