This may be the second picture i ever saw of this type of coral. The first being on UC web site.

Yes it is.
Do give it room away from other corals. It has long sweepers and packs a very potent sting.

It is by itself sort of. I have this one near it and it does get stung every now and then. Neither one seems to be affected by each other.

Is this merulina as hard to grow as I have been reading about?

No it grew really well for me
