Curious if you guys could help. Sold to me as a juvenile orange shoulder tang. I’m having my doubts as his face is turning grey. Is only about 1.5in. Love the little guy though.

There are many tangs that are yellow when juveniles. This looks like a Kole juvy to me. Orange shoulder would typically have a dark patch where the orange spot is on adult. I could be wrong. With face turning Kole is my guess!

Thanks guys. I tend to agree with you. Either way it will be fun to watch him grow and see how he changes

Yep! Plus look at the rings around the eyes.

I agree with the others and you can see the faint markings of the Kole on him already. You are right in saying it will be great having him from that young age and watching it mature! Not sure of the size of your tank but you may be better off with a Kole sized Tang anyway!! Win Win!!! Best of luck with the little guy!

Juvenile bristletooth tangs are really tough to ID. I am not comfortable saying this is a juvenile Kole because of the overall shape of this one’s fins (more squared off like a two spot bristletooth) and the forked tail (again, something seen on two spot, tomini, etc).

However, the color is wrong for either one. So it’s as good of a guess as any! Obviously species variance and photos could contribute to my observation.

I will say that it is a bristletooth tang species, definitely not acanhurus although the odd Caribbean blue tang juvenile looks an awful lot like a juvenile bristletooth.
