Show off your Tangs

I can't get a shot of her really really ticked off as she just gets all aggro and erratic in her swimming and threatening patterns.

That is a yellowfin surgeonfish.

Thanks! That would be the most likely candidate.
She is the biggest fish and bully in the tank. Will likely have to get her out in the next year or so. The patterns displayed when she is truly angry are phenomenal. Imagine the last photo squared.

Tangs (specifically PBT) grow fast, does not need to be in a huge tank either. Here is the progress of my PBT. Most of the growth have been in my 65 gal reef. Only about 1 out of the last 11 months in my 320 gal.
Adequate feeding is essential. I feed my fish very well. My PBT was sick and emaciated when I got him 4/2018 at 2.5 inches, full of Ich. He is 5+ inches now in less than 1 year. He is a picture of heath in my 320 gal DT. I only moved him to his new home about 3 weeks ago.
My PBT 4/22/2018 when I just got him and now on 3/15/2019. Slightly short of 11 months.

I have had my Achilles for almost 8 years. Was about 2” when I got him he’s now over 7”. The key has been lots of Nori and LRS frozen that’s all I feed them. This guy eats 3 times a day and a sheet of Nori a day.
He would show signs of ick a couple days a month the first 2/3 years. Got a cleaner wrasse and have not seen a speck on him in about 5 years. Will never keep a Tang again without a cleaner wrasse in the tank. Also have a large blue tang and very large Purple tang and all 3 get along great. Achilles are my favorite fish make sure it’s the last tang you add they are definitely the boss in the tank.

Beautiful PBT and great job in saving him. His color and size is amazing.

So get them small? How big is your tank? I have been reading the tank needs to be at least 6 or 8 feet long. The flow needs to be really high water needs to be prestine. And a very established system. Beautiful tank and fish by the way and thank you.

My tank is a 250 and I have a ton a flow. My Achilles loves to swim up against the front of the MP40. I don’t think you need to get a small one just make sure you get one that is healthy and color should be very dark. If it’s skinny or pale then it may be tough to have long term success.

I made a failed attempt to rescue an Achilles when I was in Hawaii. I saw a fish floating and twitching in the surf. I tried to catch him in my hands, I was going to try to get him out of the breakers and "swim" him around a little but I couldn't get him. I was worried about getting slashed since he was big and I was on a pretty remote beach. After a failed attempt to get him, another wave came in and he disappeared. He looked very healthy. Maybe he just got stunned by a wave and came too. I like to think so anyways, he was absolutely stunning.

Maybe someday when I'm a better aquarist and if I have a big enough tank, I'd love to get one and have it be the centerpiece of a Hawaii themed tank.
