Show off your tilefish!

Tilefish Thursday? Got the cuniculus on Tuesday, was supposed to be a starcki but he showed up instead. Looking good and eating like a piggy though!

Honestly, the cuniculus are nicer than the starcki but that is also coming from someone who works around common species of fish weekly. And starcki is the most brought in tile I find.
I mean, I find gem tangs boring now! Every time an LFS can they get them in and they just become a fish in the back basically.

I really like the vibrant colors of the starcki. Gonna try to complete my tile ensemble with a purpureus, a starcki, a fourmanoiri, and a randalli.

Just need to find healthy ones locally. I'm done buying online.

I tried a combo similar to that in a 150G species only tank that not fully filled to eliminate the jumping suicide issue. I QT’ed each type of tiles separately for 30 plus days, add them in sequentially, and I even re-arranged the rocks a bit to give more caves and space. It had a deep sand bed…., even with all that, the tiles did stress themselves out. It was quick and I was able to able to save a few.

Hoping the distraction of all the fairy wrasses and the butterflies helps calm them all down. So far it's working for the marcosi, and seems to be helping the cuniculus in quarantine as well.

I thought about that too so I threw in a couple of fairy wrasses. They didn’t help. Later, I learned that they are known to swim with anthias in nature. Probably because they both need a few feeding a day and don’t eat pods or worms. I am still not a fan of anthias cus they look like gold fish so I haven’t tried. Not sure about if you like anthias…., but they are an option.

Im so glad someone else thinks that about anthias!
They just look like fancy goldfish but saltwater to me and people wonder why I don’t have a group in my tank - well, I have a huge wrasse gang that make up for it!

I think fancy goldfish looks better…, anthias are just like normal goldfish, not even fancy.

Guess what this fish is? Goldfish or anthias?

Anthias!

Well, managed to crash my big quarantine a couple days back and moved everyone over to the display to try and save them. Most of the fish made it thankfully.

The cuniculus tilefish buddied right up with the marcosi tilefish already in here, as did the Razor Goby (Oxymetopon cyanoctenosum) and the exquisite firefish (Nemateleotris exquisita). They all share a burrow with the yellow headed Sleeper goby (Valenciennea strigata) at night and if spooked.

And the ribbon goby! Awesome. Is it like the tilefish in behavior?

Honestly, all 3 are frequently swimming with one another. A little less active, the tiles are all over the place, whereas the goby tends to just hover more in one spot.

It's either the 3 of them together or the 2 tiles begging at the front for food, while the goby hangs in the water column waiting with the exquisite firefish.

So I am giving tilefish another shot and I got a few more. So far they’re in an observation tank for little over a week, skunks and yellow are eating except thr blue faces are not eating, which I lost one today.

So far I tried diy fish food which mostly made out of shrimp, pellets and masstick, still no luck. (Soaked with garlic and selcon).

They’re still very active as of now swimming around, not hiding but just don’t eat. Looks healthy too.

What’s my next approach? Live food? Forced feed? Soak food in Cipro? Idk

Remove the garlic if you can, it will never get fish feeding as it’s too much of a deterrent.

Use frozen as well, it’s incredibly difficult to get fish feeding on dry foods straight away.
