Show us your mixing station!

Here is mine. Bunch more detail on my build thread but its basically 2 - 50g containers, one RODI and one for saltwater

what a beautiful setup. This would be my dream fish room. Nice job my friend - HAPPY REEFING!

Purchased a used to/di system. Just hooked it up to test it out. My plans are to build a proper mixing station (trying to find local water tanks in Los Angeles - but may end up with brute trash cans.) but I made 15 gallons of 0 tds ro/di water today. Exciting, no more water trips to lfs and moving water upstairs 5 gal at a time....

Picked up my mixing station containers.

These are 30 gal- food grade used screw top barrels. $40 each. They held powder vitamins and have been throughly washed.

I was originally going to do regular white pipe and fittings but considering doing red and white and clear glue to match.

No one will see it but me, but I’m still debating. Guess we will see how fast I can find and get red pipe and what the cost difference is.

I’m excited to share on here. No one around me gets excited about these things lol. My wife is like “oh great more junk” but I told her I got it for her so I could make her water for her planted freshwater tank. She just looked at me.... then said “well you do the cleaning for it anyway!”

I'm genuinely curious why some people have such a complex mixing station system? Maybe because their tanks are large? My tank is 75gal is the only thing I need is a 10gal Aqueon tank and a powerhead. I just pour RODI water and salt in.

That’s a great question- I don’t think we all “need” a complex mixing station- but for me here is the “why” I did it to begin with:

prior to the mixing station I had to drive to lfs- then haul 15-gals of salt and 10 gals of rodi every week. I’m upstairs so that really sucked. I didn’t have rodi unit at that time. I was in a car accident and my back got messed up so I couldn’t haul water any more. That’s when I got the rodi and I could have just used the rodi system and a brute trash can or tank. That’s about the minimum needed to make your own water. And I did that once or twice.

for me the hassle of setting everything up, then taking it down after water change was not fun especially with a back injury. Having a full tank of rodi on hand at any given time and the ability to mix 30 gallons of salt water and have on hand is what made me the whole “station” thing. And the rodi with the tanks are pretty much set and forget. I check and change rodi media every so often but other then that there nothing else to really do to keep it all functioning.

in an emergency situation having that mixed water on hand can be a game changer. And for me I no longer have to haul water - either it be from lfs or just around my place- it’s now easy and painless. This meant a lot when my back was messed up- but now I can’t see going back to the way I did it before.

but I know more reefers without a mixing station then I do with one lol. So we don’t need it, but it’s for sure a nice thing to have.

What's complex? I see two holding tanks, a pump and some pvc...

That's a thorough explanation. Thank you!

Repurposed some 30L containers... upper stack RODI and the lower ones for Salt Water Mixing. Still a work in progress.

Haha...I actually spent a lot more time doing up the ATO and AWC project than the tank itself. I have another ARLO pointing on my tank upstairs!

Yeah Arlo cam is great! I have the Pro 2's around my house. Thinking about getting one more so I can watch my tank while I'm away from home.

Tractor Supply Company is where I recently got my 65G Norwesco tank. Don't have it plumbed up yet, but it will be just for storing RO/DI. The 32G brute I have for mixing is plenty big enough, and I don't have any plans to replace it.

Did you pay approximately $360 for them? I see them online for much cheaper but then with $900 shipping. Locally, TSC sells them for $365.
