We see loads of pics of beautifully manicured DTs, with acros growing out of the water, clams you could lose a foot in, rocks you could eat your dinner off, all set to stunning lighting schedules...

Let's ignore all that and see the guts of what we do... we've seen the sumps, let's see your QTs... in whatever state they happen to be in...

Here's mine to start:

These shots are a few months old, but just at the moment the QT is down for cleaning / drying. There was a very shy Quoy's parrotfish in there at the time, and the black plastic was an effort to afford that fish some privacy.

It didn't work - he never came out of the PVC fittings, never ate and passed after a month.

Tank is 75 gallons, filtered by two Aqua-Clear 110 HOBs, with additional flow provided by a powerhead on the side wall. Decor is PVC fittings and a plastic sea-fan.

Ha ha, no it's a hideous ruined castle!! My kids love all the tacky ornaments but I won't have them in my DT so they all go into the QT. Tbf, it makes an awesome hiding place, all those windows are interconnected inside. If you look carefully you can just make out the fake tree trunk and pirate ship lol.

The black thing is a fluval internal sponge filter from the 90s. I love it, really simple and has adjustable flow.

Light is a £20 Chinese led off eBay... I tho k it has like 0.1w leds, only 3/4 of them work and half the blues have died!

There is a longnose in there - that fellow contracted an internal bacterial infection (I believe) and was gone overnight, with just a small red subcutaneous blotch as evidence.

I would like to try the Quoy's parrot again, as it's one of my favorites. I do have a Caribbean striped parrotfish (Scarus iseri) now though, and would worry about conflict between the two.

Love the open frame stand! Is it weird that this is far more interesting to me than all the stunning DT pics posted!!??
