I have a 20 gallon all in one tank with two output flows and a nano powerhead. I am going to purchase another powerhead for the tank but I'm torn between the placement of the two. Anybody have some advice as to what works best on a 2 foot tank? Thanks! [emoji16]

Gyre XF130!!

I have two in a 40 breeder - 36X18 L vs D

Other option is both on back pointing forward alternating pulse modes. Best setup IMHO. Around 4 inches from the top.

These are just typical setups that work well. Others succeed with a multitude of setups, but it's always good to start somewhere simple and adjust.

What are your goals would be good to know. Coral types, rock scape, etc. That'll dictate placement and power needed now vs. later. For example, if you grow out large colonies and SPS you'll need more flow as the tank matures.

Well I have everything from soft to euphilia to one sps frag. I don't plan on getting into sps too much. I just want flow for both the corals and keeping algae at a minimum.

some older ones here too. Just for reference of rock scape and open space. I'm also trying to keep costs down and I'm pretty sure the gyres are expensive for me? Thanks

I'm with Ken on the gyre. I have a Maxspect 230 on my 29 gallon nano and it work masterfully. I have it running between 30% - 40% and there is great water movement through the entire tank. Zero dead spots that I have found, and with the ability to rotate one pump in and the other down I also have great surface agitation also.

The newer models can be pricy. However, you can still get the less fancy ones with the old controllers. That's what I bought. I just want strong variable flow. I don't care if they have all the bells and whistles and are apex compatible.

For you. One good powerhead pointing at the surface for agitation like the power head you have, and one verticals gyre pushing water circularly around the perimeter of your tank on pulse mode would be perfect. I have one mp10 on pulse and a cheapo jaebo cp gyre vertically on pulse mode. That 40 B is LPS, anemones, and simple SPS. That's the type of setup I'd recommend for you. I like the pump, and you can get it for 80 I think. Jaebo cp-20. I care more for the SPS and that's what I spend my money on equipment wise.

If you look back left of the month colony you can see the vertically place gyre. Hard to see but I think you can make it out. Third photo probably easier to see.

I also have one in this tank. Mostly LPS, tank without the nems. Also cheapo jaebo on pulse mode.

Those other power heads in the anemone free LPS tank are not on.

Hey those are awesome! I'll check out the jebao.

They're more programmable then you'd think. Manual required lol, but not awful lumps for sure.

If you like them replace your other power head too. Good luck my friend!! Let us know how you make out.
