Show your rare SPS corals

Nothing crazy but haven't seen it come up often. I think i saw reefkoi post a frag once. Pinkish base with yellow polyps and irregular growth pattern.

I think the problem with the thread is "What is considered rare with SPS corals?" Here in Cali it doesn't seem like anything is really "rare" anymore, some things are a little more expensive than others (slow growers mostly) but everything is obtainable.

To me, this is what I would consider the "rarest" SPS coral in my tank, but it certainly isn't the best looking coral (but I really like the geometric design and lines). It is a Pachyseris coral.

I haven't had that piece that long. We'll have to see if it keeps it's colors.
I'm really interested to see what that ones does too. Keep us posted please good or bad. Hoping it does really well for you though.....wish I can find one like that.

Sorry about making it seem like nothing is rare.....kinda pompous maybe? I guess its just that I have been so into SPS that it feels hard to see something new......in actuality though ever sps that is kept in captivity is a rare thing....especially if we are keeping them healthy...wasn't that long ago that people thought it was impossible.

Here is one that you guys might find rare....its a candian found tort. Dave/250g on RC named it the cobalt tort. Below it is a nice purple/blue polyped nausta....

Your colors always impress me darryl. Nice shots everyone, I can't get enough.

I think it depends on where you live what's considered rare. An A. sarmentosa isn't rare around here & the Pachyseris even less so........it's like a M. green cap ordinary to me.

Anyways, here's a few morphs that happened naturally in my tank. I call this The Blob that started growing on the table top portion of my A. soli. It is staying a full majenta color like the growth tips of this coral. I'm hoping it continues like this & gives me a full solid majenta A. soli.

This orange cap is thrown in the corner of my tank & I think it picked up some green from my green cap that's on the same floor & corner. Not sure how or when this happened. A visitor pointed it out to me..........there's three different spots like this throughout the cap.

Here's my Watermelon Acro............it's got orange skin & corallites with red polyps & the growth rim on the base is green. I'm not sure how rare it is but it's looking sweeter the more it grows.

That looks to me just like the original Cali tort. It should be a deep purple/blue with purple polyps. I have the acro named by Scott Berman all those years ago, and it shows a little green under my t5s, but for the most part it's sold purple just like your version. Same growth formation as well.

I have one acro that I have been sitting on for almost 9 months now that refuses to color up or grow much. I've only seen one or two others like it, but it's currently brown. I've been growing a cutting of it for 6 months and it's grown about 1/2" and turned a nice green color so hope is there, but not much to look at yet. I'll see if I can't get a decent photo of it.

same coral as the ORA jermeys green of the Tubbs montipora stellata. you are right; crazyyyy growth pattern!!! Super unique, nothing like it IMO.

I stopped by Reef Raft USA yesterday and got a frag of the Purple Dragon Eyes Acropora. This thing is so much better in person.
