Shredded tail?

My mandarins tail is shredded, none of my other fish are affected similarly, they include a yellow tang, a Leapord wrasse, tomato clown, a lawnmower blennie and scooter blennie. For crabs I have an emerald crab and a lot of hermits. I suspect the emerald because they are very narrow cuts. They are not very large,just enough forme to be worried. He is still swimming happily and looks healthy enough. Just worried.

My money would be on the scooter blenny. Although they can often be kept together without issue, they are closely related and may view one another as rivals.

Maybe, they swim around each other a lot during the day and I have never seen aggression though

It's either the scooter or the lawnmower, typical blenny behavior. My bet it's the scooter

Yup I've seen scooter and mandarin rough eachother up before... You may have to remove one. Even if a tank with lots of pods sometimes they will not tolerate each other.

Why did it just start now? Not three days ago

Could be maturity, could be they got used to each other, could be it took that long for pressure to be placed on resources, could be something else entirely.

Another question is why would all the damage have occurred over night? I checked yesterday night and he was fine. Come this morning and all the damage occurred. I will put him in an acclimation box for now.

Blenny's are a territorial fish. Now this will sound crazy but it happened.. I have a starry blenny that just killed my unicorn tang. He chewed he's tail and fins in one night. And was stuck to the powerhead the next morning. Now he's taking my snails and picking them up in his mouth and slamming them into the side of my tank. All this new behavior started over the corse of a week so there Ya go. They can be crazy if the feel like it.
