Hello Guys,

Just started the raw shrimp cycle two days ago.

Today I did water testing and can't seem to see any ammonia spike.

Want to know when should I be seeing an ammonia spike?

1st tank is a IM25 Lagoon. The rocks that I used is from my old tank 2 years ago. Did a 3 week salt water cure before putting it in the tank and being dosing bottle bacteria for a week already.

I did a search on the net and people say around the 2nd day or the 3 day there should be ammonia spike and that's when I should take out the raw shrimp.

2nd tank is a 4.7G pico with live sands bought from LFS. 0 ammonia and almost 0 nitride and very minimal nitrate.

Any thoughts on the situations?

Thanks

Never used the shrimp method, but I would stay the course and be patient. You will probably wake up to a spike in a day or two.

Welcome to R2R!

Did another test today with shrimp in the tank.

I am not getting any spikes in ammonia but my nitrate is has doubled lol... I think I might have done the cycling process while I was curing the rocks in the basket...

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Yes actually, that is quite possible. It did not occur to me earlier. That would be four weeks in saltwater.

The nitrate may also be a false reading if nitrite is present. A small amount of nitrite can read as a hundreds times as much nitrate (e.g., 0.2 ppm nitrate --> 20 ppm nitrate with some kits).

I use RO-DI water to mix. I would assume that there shouldn't be any Nitrite to start with?
I have left the raw shrimp in the tank for more than 1 week now and I have yet to detect any Ammonia...
