Shrimp eating my war coral

hey guys, thanks for reading. I have a 30 gallon, with some trochus, and cerith snails, two peppermint and a cleaner. And no fish, (which may be the problem...) I do have some coral. I have a war coral, which was on the sand bed, doing fine for about a week, than I noticed a peppermint by it, didn't think much of it. Came back two hours later to see his center eye picked clean off. So I moved him, away from where the peppermints hang out, and up high on a frag rack. This morning I came out to see all his mouths picked completely clean. what the heck. Ive been feeding the shrimp every other day, rods food. So should I take the shrimp out? Will the coral survive, anything in particular I should do to aid the coral? Any advice is appreciated.

Yes, I have had peppermints do this to my acans as well. And yes my acans came back. I pulled mine out and made fish food of him.

Usually your CUC will not mess with corals unless they detect there is a problem already. From my experience my CUC will only do this to corals that were already dying. Hence doing there job. Just my 02 cents. I could totally be wrong.

Peppermints are the most rogue. I had one eat a $225 welly. I'd 86 is asap. Maybe bring it to a LFS, let it be some one else's nightmare.

If they are not getting enough to eat they steal food from a lps stomach. Once they learn they can do this and not get hurt it becomes an easy way to eat. Remove the shrimp or more will suffer.

Well jeez, I'm losing members of my CUC left and right hah. Had to get rid of my emerald crab, and and electric blue hermit. I'm taking a trip to a fish store today, hour and a half drive, if I put the shrimp in a bag, will they last that long?

Yes they should be fine. As long as you make sure temperature doesn't fluctuate bad.

I'll put them in s styrofoam box. Kind of a bummer, they were going to clean up any left behind debris. Any other recommendations, to fill there spot?
