I want to buy a shrimp, but a couple of weeks ago when I went to Petco they had their tanks tore down with just a couple of them running that the fish was not for sale due to observation and looked like they had velvet. Can shrimp carry any fish disease or pest with them?

Yes they can. You can QT them until they molt.

Ok ill probably pass and buy them someplace else lol

I don’t blame you lol, if possible try and find an LFS that has an invert system separate from the fish system.

I agree with your decision to pass - I would do the same.

You ask a really good question that is very broad. There is a difference between bacterial, viral, and parasitic issues. A common treatment for velvet (a parasite) is copper which is a huge problem for shrimp.

Shrimp usually do not carry the same diseases as fish, but the shrimp or the water can be a temporary transfer source for the disease.

Just don’t make the mistake of getting a regular coral banded shrimp. However, the golden or blue coral banded are ok.
Im curious as to why? Other than the smaller ones are more peaceful towards other shrimp? Im asking because im strongly considering the coral banded for my 210

It will get big and start eating your cleanup crew and fish. The golden and blue ones are smaller and reef safe.Even kept them with sexy shrimp with no issues.
