Shrimp harassing indophyllia, cynarina at night

Anyone else have their cleaner shrimp go into the mouth of their lps like acanthophyllia, cynarina, scolymia, indophyllia with big single mouths? I feed them pellets at night and throw the shrimp some food and they usually stay away. But tonight before I fed them I saw the shrimp kinda cruising around my lps garden and kinda picking the mouth. The indophyllia usually discards some extra zooxanthaelle mucus at the end of the day, and that might be what it's after, but they may also have learned that I feed them at night and they can get a snack from their mouth!

I have a fish trap, but may have to figure out how to trap a shrimp or two.

That's pretty common for shrimp to do, I've always had to give my shrimp something to work on while feeding LPS such as a piece of chopped squid. Doing so usually gives me enough time to feed my Blasto and Euphyllia without the shrimp taking food from them.

How'd you get them out? I don't think it's too big of an issue at this point, but long term I'll consider it. Crabs were easy with a glass jar, and my aqua-medic fish trap has always done wonders for fish.

Aqua medic. I usually used cheesecloth and wrapped food up and stuck in it the back of the trap. For peppermints I cut the top of a bottle and reversed it. Put bait inside and caught them. Be patient. Once they know you’re trying to catch them, they will take longer to go for the bait.

Maybe at the same time you’ve been feeding your Cynarina, etc, you can just put bait in a trap and not feed the coral. They will go looking and once they are all the way in you can grab them.

I used a 1 liter water bottle, cut the top off about 4 inches below the top and then put the top back in upside down like a funnel. Then put some brine shrimp in and put the bottle on the bottom of my tank to catch peppermint shrimp that went rogue on me. You can probably google " DIY peppermint shrimp trap" or something. Worked great for me

Thanks, great idea. I'll have to see if the wife goes for it. The two cleaner shrimp really don't do much, but they're an interesting thing for people to see. I already got rid of my lawnmower blenny because he was nipping on my clams, so I'm feeling bad about getting rid of so many critters! But only the favorite ones get to stay, and I love my big lps.

I know what you mean, it's fun to watch the inverts, but when they start messing with the livestock "out you go"!! I've had to jettison hermits, emerald crabs and shrimp. I am just a snail guy now. I love my LPS too.
