I had to do a triple take when I thought I saw a shrimp in my squamosa clam. Took me a few minutes to get the shot as he is living near the gills. Just wanted to share

Cool!
Just looked it up and it looks like it’s a type of symbiotic shrimp that lives in clams.
I can’t find the specific species name.

I stand corrected, just saw a second shrimp. The both have spots and one is darker than the other one.

Not abnormal nor harmful, A crab is a whole different story

That's super cool. Are those anemone shrimp that you added or they came with the clam? Also do they ever come out?

they typically come within. Mine did and one day, shrimp vanished

It has been a long time since I looked into these, but they appear to have short life spans, like just a few years. They also are probably not all that tolerant of high residual N and P levels like many other sensitive inverts. In any case, mine disappeared after a year or two.

Very cool! I wonder if that means it was maricultured/wild collected instead of farmed, or if there are some of those commensal shrimp that have managed to propagate in an aquaculture facility alongside their hosts.

It's always fascinating how many organisms seem to have evolved to live in very specific environments - like particular host species, and seems like a lot of them are shrimp.
