Shrimp Molts

I can’t be the only one who has to do at triple check when finding a molt to make sure your shrimp didn’t bite the dust.

Gets me every time haha!

Yea me too.
This time though I have not seen my second shrimp in three weeks so I think he is dead.

Imagine being new to saltwater not knowing about molt and waking up to the shrimp second day only to find the molt inside your MP10 pump. It was devastating only for my girlfriend to say but he's under t rock, lol

After awhile, you will understand which is a molt and not. A shrimp will hide for a few a days after a molt to rest, so it does add to the mystery.

Emerald crabs are even harder to determine. I've had some that I'm still unsure about. I seldom see the crabs in the light to know how many I still have.

I thought I had a dead shrimp today until I realized it had molted. I was surprised that it was a molt, since it must have been over night. I had seen the shrimp yesterday eating...then today I see it eating, but found the old exoskeleton. Just out of curiosity, do people leave them in the tank or remove them? I know lobsters sometimes eat their exoskeleton for the minerals, do shrimp do the same?
