Shrinkflation by BRS

As some are aware BRS has doubled the cost of their additives over the last year. What I was not aware of was them giving roughly 15% less additive in each 1 gallon mix pack. I usually buy them in a 10 pack so it takes me awhile to go through them. I recently purchased a couple 1gal mixes from my LFS because I was getting low, and they felt lighter than the older ones. Then I ordered another 10 pack from brs a couple weeks ago. These also felt lighter than the old ones. Called them to find out if there was an issue and the agent informed me that there was an issue with some 7lb pack and the weight. So I bought a scale and measured myself. The old packs, with the same amount of packaging, weight 427g, 426g, and 435g. The new packs weigh 363g, 365, 362. The new packs of soda ash and calcium chloride dissolve way faster than the old ones. Been having lots of issues with BRS since the sellout they made. I'm personally done with this company. RIP Doctors Bulk reef and Smith.

That is pretty crappy way to treat customers. How is a customer suppose to know they are now getting a less potent mix

The older packs could have some moisture content as well. A better way to compare would be mix them up in an equal gallons of water and dilute a sample and test the actual strength.

I thought about taking 1 pack of each then baking them to remove moisture. It's pretty obvious if you hold them side by side though. No leaks in any packs, all airtight.

I bet cheesecake slices at cheesecake factory got smaller. They look smaller, takes up less space in the to-go container. Somehow they still managed to keep them above 1000 calories.

Do they have the same instructions on them regarding how much to dose etc?

If so, this is either a mistake or your old packets aren't soda ash anymore, they wouldn't pull an outright scam

We need an “Other than BRS” sticky. What gets me and I’m sure a lot of others is their points system. I’m sure it’s a scam but you feel like you’re getting a deal when you cash those things in. But judging my the price difference in your post, man that’s huge and negates any measly point accumulation at BRS

The egregious thing is that people call Krispy Kreme, a donut store. It definitely is not.

Small mom and pop donut shops are the way. If you can find one that bakes with potato flower, even better.

Krispy Kreme are an abomination.
