I got a single polyp of this nuclear green paly and it’s grown and spread great. Over the past couple months I’ve noticed the edges of the polyps are sort of folding in and what use to be large round polyps appear to be shrinking.

Further more the mouths look very large and open and almost inverted

Anyone know what’s going on?

I just did a water change and took a closer look at the colony and it looks like sponge is growing around the base and working it’s way up. It’s growing and forms these tunnels. I took a soft brush and tweezers to try and remove what I could but I am sure what ever this stuff is will continue to grow. Here are more pics

I have a small colony of about 30 polyps of tubs blue that have something similar going on. These grew from just polyps and we’re doing great. Then a yellow sponge grew up the side of my rock and to the edge of the colony. It’s not in the colony at this point but butted right up to it. Ever since this colony stopped spreading and the polyps have shrunk and they don’t open very well either anymore.

The sponge is too invasive to remove. The entire underside of this rock is just a giant sponge. I’m surprised it has crept up the edge and into the light this much.

Yes this started from the rock also and is out competing the palys and because it grows and creeps around any new paly growth is stunned, prevented or halted.
