Hey all - I recently setup my AF OceanGuard 435 and purchased an SDC 6.0 as the tank flow rating is around d 850gph and I wanted the ability to dial in the flow when considering the head.

unfortunately the SDC 6.0 comes with a SCH 80 1” to 3/4 reducing barb. This is too big for the DIN 20 +/- return pump tubing. Does anyone know if I can get ahold of a 1” reducer to 1/2 barb? Considering dropping down to the SDC 3.0, but it won’t give me room for error.

I appreciate your time!

The pump comes with a number of fittings so there are lots of options but reducing the pump output down that much is normally not the best idea.

Thanks and that’s a good point. I’ll probably return the SDC 6.0 and purchase the 3.0 as it comes with a 1/2” barb fitting. Thanks!

just thought I’d provide an update!

I reached out to bulk reef and had them confirm that the return hose on the Auqaforest tank is actually 3/4”. The SDC 6.0 comes with a 1-1/4” to 1” barb reducer already. BRS recommended getting a 1-1/4” to 3/4” reducing bushing then transition to a 3/4” barb. Since the AF recommends around 850gph for the return, I wouldn’t be maxing out the 6.0 and should be good to go.

They too felt that knocking down to the SDC 3.0, which is rated at 800gph may not provide enough flow once head pressure is factored. they didn’t seem to have a better return pump to specify for the AF 435, so we will see how this works out.

Cool

Then you can either get a glue in or pipe thread nipple.

Off to the hardware store I go! Hopefully I can start to post-up images of the tank build as well.

Thanks for your input!!
