Finally, somebody that gets it. I have asked this question 20 times... And nobody has the brain in their head to understand the "head" of a pump for a verticle 4ft UV. Sicce didnt respond to emails and Chad at BRS was willing to sell me a Sicce 0.5 (with only 2ft of head!) To run a verticle mounted Pentair 40 W 6ft over the top of my tank from my sump. I posted on AskBRStv... They didnt post my question. Seems shady. Making a lot of money on people burning these units out - hence the bad reviews. I asked on this forum 3 times - and nobody responded. So much for the reefing "community". Thanks for an intelligent post. VERY helpful.Never mind the idea of drilling - it would mess up the shape of the pump chamber too much and probably crack through the body.
I did some testing at 5ft head height though:
3/4" tubing with 3/4" barb: 2g in 0:50 = 144gph
1/2" tubing with 1/2" barb: 2g in 1:23 = 87gph
My head height will be more like 4ft and since I was hoping for about 200gph I think it'll be just about right.
Thanks man. I saw the specs with a graph on BRS - but the graph was numbered wierd and was using commas for decimals which completely threw me off. Once I figured out that the comma was a Brittish decimal - the smoke cleared and the graph made sense. The pump is fantastic - dead quiet after break in and after I realized that something about my sump return chamber was amplifying sound - wrapping it in a silicon pad fixed that.
The 2.0 is considerably more capable of handling head pressure. Sicce is great in that they post the head/flow right on the box and on the product web pages.
