Sick blue dot jawfish

This morning, my blue dot had a red/cloudy eye and was having labored breathing. I did a formal in 30 minute dip and his eye cleared up. Now I’m doing Metroplex in a QT. He looks a little better but still labored breathing. Any other suggestions?

Fish looks awfully thin which may be the main issue as it may have edema and be feeing off its liver and going downhill.
If eating, what foods are you feeding it?
Additionally, the water is hazy looking- how is it being filtered?
Add air stone and stop metro. Too many are using metro which must be administered precisely by weight and makes foods taste bitter. Use Metro if absolutely necessary.

That open mouth breathing is really serious.

The water looks slightly cloudy, what is the ammonia level?

If .25- this level is toxic. If using an API master kit. I encourage you to get a water test ASAP at a shop that does Not use API kits and see what readings they come up with and to compare with yours

So - it’s still eating today? If so, I would revise my concern about the fish’s breathing; serious rapid breathing usually goes hand in hand with the fish not eating.

Be sure the water temperature is as close to 75 f as you can get it, these are cool water fish.

I have not seen him eat. But he’s not rapidly breathing anymore. He’s just lethargic.

The tank is a 5 gallon tank. It has a hang on the back filter, and air stone, PVC, heater/thermometer, and an air pump.

This equipment should be acceptable. Its water or gill flukes causing it to breathe this labored. If flukes, Ruby rally pro or PraziPro is safe to use

I have not seen him eat. But he’s not rapidly breathing anymore. He’s just lethargic.

That doesn’t look good actually, I worry that it’s respiration rate has slowed down because it is moribund, actively dying.

He's taking food in, but spitting it out today. I put Focus on it. He doesn't seem to like it. I'm not going to do that tonight.

Focus, by itself doesn't have much medicinal value. It is primarily used as a binder for other medications.

The taking food in but spitting it out is a confounding issue - we see that a lot in some fish (clownfish) but I don't think it is a symptom of a specific issue, but rather, a general symptom.

He is in general Cure right now. How long should he be symptom-free before re-adding him to the dt?
