Hey guys. So my blue jaw trigger fish got ich and I had to qt him along with all my live stock. It's been a month and I did the copper treatment for the 14 days. All the white spot is gone and he is eating and doing good but he has lost so much color and his cool dorsal and ventral fins are starting to rip and rot. What is going on ? Is this normal? Can it grow back and get his color back? Maybe once I did my tank of the ich ( I'm waiting for 8 weeks and I'm at week 4 or 5) and I put him back in my display he will get all his color back and fins? Please help asap. Thanks!

Pics would help. Is he being picked on by other fish? Possible fin/tail rot. Caused by poor water conditions. Are you keeping up on maintenance of the QT tank?

Yea it's a 10 gallon I do a water change every 2-3 days. Maybe when he gets back in the tank he will get all better. He's eating and everything I think it's jus cuz he's in this 10 gallon qt but I had to do it. There's 3 to 4 more weeks left that I want to go fallow. What is fin rot? Will he get his beauty back?

Are you checking ammonia levels and nitrates? A Blue Jaw and "all my other fish" in a 10 gallon hospital tank....I would think might require water changes every day (with adjustments to copper level)!

It's just a clown and my trigger that's it lol I didn't mean a lot of fish it's just them two

My fish haven't lost color with copper, see my cupramine and Angels log.

Long story short it could be a secondary infection as a result of all of the holes.

Also does sound like ammonia. 10 gallon is pretty small. Find a seachem ammonia badge and change lots of water as soon as it is anything but bright yellow

Fish do lose color in copper. That much I can tell you. One of the LFS keeps all their fish with copper in the system (not inverts obviously) and the colors sometimes are drastically dull.

It's usually with hypo that they lose color. I've kept my fish in .70 levels of copper for months now with zero dull effect. I've never seen any dull unless otherwise sick.

Look at all of these fish in copper:

Lots of fish with lots of color to lose!
