Sick Emperor Angel

Appears to be flukes but to eliminate that possibility, give it a freshwater dip and return to tank. Look at bottom of bucket after dip for what looks like small sesame seeds. That will be flukes.
When transferring fish to the new tank, did you acclimate it as you would with a new fish?
Not doing so may cause these issues

I performed the FWD and there were no flukes. I believe this is some intestinal parasite. Prior to the transfer to the new tank I made sure all tank parameters matched the old tank, and therefore did not acclimate.

Is its' poop white? If so, Try PraziPro which treats for internal parasites.

Yes, I’ve seen white poop coming from both the Emperor and 6-banded angels. I started the first Prazipro dose last Friday. 20% water change tomorrow, and the second dose on Wednesday.

Youre on track. Dose praziPro at 80% of recommended

Thanks. Is there any reason why just 80% and not the full amount? The instructions say 1 oz per 120G, so I put in 1 2/3 oz for my 200G, i.e. the full amount. I can put in 80% of that (1 1/3 oz) for the 2nd dose, but would like to understand the reason for cutting back.

If you have 200 gallons. With rock and other solids, you have in essence160-170 useable gallons thereby risking possible overdose

Sorry about everything you’re going through, OP. :( They’re very beautiful fish. Too small for my tank, unfortunately.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Now I know that if I ever get a new tank and transfer livestock from my old tank I’ll have to acclimate them to the new tank.

Dropped the 2nd dose today.

After the 1st dose, my Emperor looked just slightly better. Although he has been more active over the past few days, he still is not eating much, and the 2nd dose has put him back under the rockwork for most of the day. Otherwise I would have snapped an update pic to show the slight improvement.

On a positive note, my 6-banded angel is looking and acting a lot better, which has kept me hopeful. He is eating better too.

I started making the metro based medicated fish food below to catch any other parasite strain not caught by Prazi.

It is mysis and chopped up krill, thawed with selcon, then mixed with focus after 15 min, then mixed with metro after 15 min, then mixed with garlic guard, letting the slurry soak in for 15 more min, then spoon into a cleaned out frozen food cube package, and stored in the freezer.

The 6-banded angel and my yellow tang have been eating this up! Unfortunately my Emperor has been back in hiding since starting dose 2, not interested in my homemade delight...yet...hopefully.

Will try to get an update pic of my emperor once he comes back out.

Coming to the end of the 2nd dose.

Here is an update pic of my Emperor now. He still has spotting, but not as pronounced as before, and his colors are becoming more vibrant, and lines more distinguished.

I plan on doing another 20% water change tomorrow, and a 3rd and final Prazi dose on Sunday.

Will also continue with the metro medicated food for a couple more weeks.

Hopefully he’s turning the corner.

I found him swimming at the top of the water in the powerhead stream this morning. It may be due to the pH dropping overnight, it went to 8.05, normally 8.2 - 8.3.

I’ve read that Prazi lowers oxygen levels, and maybe he wasn’t getting enough. Any other thoughts, please let me know.

Is he breathing heavily? Also check your temp, since warmer water holds less dissolved O2.

Not breathing heavily. Temp has always been controlled at 78. Also, he swims around erratically every now and then, and has been swimming at the very top with fin slightly out of the water.

Hmm. Heavy breathing is usually a sign of O2 depletion, but additional aeration can't hurt. Hoping your fish gets better!

I’ve noticed some tiny white filaments on his eyes. Here’s a good pic. The white thing in the middle of his eye is like a tiny thread that sways as he swims. There are 10-15 os these on his eyes.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for the guy/gal....I am still bummed about loosing mine. I had him for a long time, and within a couple weeks he went downhill. I was attached to him. He always are good and everything. I think you may have s good point about the sub adult thing. Maybe when I try another Emporer I will get a small adult. Keep us posted!
