So I messed up… I have quarantined everything I have put in my tank until about two weeks ago. It’s the first time I bought a new fish in almost 2 years. And I bought a powder blue that brought something into the tank.

I assume it’s Ich. So far it killed the powder blue and a tiny clown trigger that I’ve had in a reef tank for two years. Clowns are ok and marine beta is ok. Main symptoms are lethargy and swimming funny then death.

I am usually good about ID’ing disease but I am not certain on this one. The main thing that throws me off it the skin seemed to be slimy and peeling off on the trigger. The PB never had that presentation. I suspected Brook but the fish did not die rapidly and the PB did not seem to have brook. I will attach an image and hopefully a video.

Currently the surviving fish are in QT being treated with Cupramine. They have no symptoms but will be treated regardless. My goal is to figure out what this is for proper treatment.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Looks like the trigger has an advanced case of Cryptocaryon/ich. With their scales and color pattern, it tends to look a bit different. The glassy eye is pretty diagnostic though. Trouble is the PBT might have died from something else - because you can't really miss ich progression on those fish - starts with discrete white spots that grow in number.

In any event, cupramine is the best course of action. Remember though, that there may be latent ich in the tank, and moving the fish back from the QT could cause them to become infected again. You will need to wait at least 45 days, some people say wait as long as 76 days....

That would be my primary thought as well. The only thing that was throwing me is the slimy skin. The PBT definitely had ich. The tank is currently fallow And I’ll minimally do the 45 days but most likely do the 76 just to be sure.
Super bummer as I have been a strong advocate of quarantine and had a weak moment
