Hi! My husband and I have a Foxface Rabbit Fish. She started showing signs of being sick over a week ago, she developed a cloudy eye, wouldn’t eat. We did a ton of researching and thought it was perhaps flukes. We freshwater dipped her for 4 minutes. We then treated with Prazi Pro. She now has a tattered tail fin and her eye appears to be getting worse. She is swimming around but is still not eating. Any tips on what this could be or how to treat it would be greatly appreciated. thank you

The pictures are not great - the gills look inflamed. Did you do 2 prazipro treatments (per protocol) for days? Or a dip. Is he new? Any other sick fish? How old (in your tank)? There is a sticky - for some reason I cannot copy and paste the link - on the top of the fish disease forum - to give the information on how best to ask a question - there is too little info here to make a comment. except - I would prepare a hospital tank And carefully check out/monitor your other fish - depending on the answers to the questions. Sorry to be blunt - but the fish looks quite sick.

Thank you for your quick response! We’ve had her for 4 years. She was fine until a few weeks ago. He tried her in a 10 gallon QT but she was banging around in there so we loved her back to the display. We treated with Prazi 5 days ago and gave a second dose today. We did a fresh water dip 5 days ago. I have attached better pictures.

I was going to say - that 'Popeye' is usually an injury - or a bacterial infection - unless its on both sides. Have you added anything else recently to the tank? At a minimum it looks like there is bullying (see the tail fin) - and I would think an antibiotic (assuming you haven't added anything new - that could be causing a parasite) would be in order (kanaplex, etc) - depending on what you have available

Yes - - and welcome to R2R - and second - I would worry about the other fish in the tank.

poor little guy. Have you added anything new recently?
Also, sorry its under these circumstances but Welcome to R2R.
We added an angel 2 months or so ago, he was bullying the clowns so he got moved to an isolation tank. He is doing fine. The other fish in the tank are well which makes me wonder if it could be bacterial. Thank you btw! We follow this thread often just hadn’t officially joined until now.

Both her eyes are cloudy/white, one is worse than the other but both look bad. We’ve tried Kanaplex and Metroplex. We are at a loss. We are really trying to save her. We just don’t know what else to do.

I was going to comment on the cloudy eyes and tail fin. Sorry to say but it looks pretty sick. Hopefully you can get it to a hospital tank and turn it arround.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

The tail looks like a bite. Is it just the left eye that is involved? If so, that could well be an injury - flukes tend to cloud up both eyes more or less equally.

What other fish are in with it?

Jay

This appears to be a bacterial issue and secondary infection and Fish needs to go to quarantine for treatment.
Treatment will be Maracyn 2 Or Seachem Kanaplex (my choice) which treats bacterial fish diseases (dropsy, popeye, fin/tail rot, septicemia). Because it is absorbed by fish it is useful in treating internal infections in those situations where food is refused
Add aeration via air stone during treatment and monitor ammonia levels

It’s both eyes. Maybe we can move her to another hospital tank that is completely empty. She was banging around and we were worried about that so we moved her back to the display tank. We just treated with Prazi within the last hour. If we move her, should we treat the hospital tank? We don’t want to over medicate.

After the prazi, you could consider using Erythromycin (Maracyn 1) in a treatment tank - that sometimes works well for fish eye issues.

Rabbits are very low on the spectrum on getting the usual TANG type infections because there venum usually takes coarse. With that being said that also makes them even more prone to bacterial infections. IMO I would let her live it out in the DT. Moving her and treating will only result in a much quicker death. Shes not contagious and will be easier to remove after she passes. Sorry for your loss.

Usual tang infections?
I have 19 tangs and 17 of them 5+ years with no issues and had 2 rabbits 2-3+ years and only reason I got rid of them was they were feasting on my zoas.
venom is for their protection and secreted through glands if threatened. Rabbits and tangs Not prone to bacterial issues often derived from water and poor water quality/diet

Can you clarify - did the eyes look bad before you moved it to the QT or after? I’m still thinking the damage angle…

My bad I should have said parasites. Which then lead to infections and death. Guess I got ahead of myself there guy.
