My tusk is acting bad. Stationary most of the time. Big belly (bloat??), lethargic. 3-4 days ago woke up to him with this tail wound. Has significant granulation tissue around it. Has he gone septic? Is the tail unrelated and he has bloat??? Constipated? Any help is appreciated.

Agree with bacterial infection diagnosis. You need to get him into QT ASAP and start dosing antibiotics for there to be any chance of survival. Kanaplex + Furan-2 + Metroplex would be my weapons of choice here. At the very least, you'll want either Kanaplex or Furan... but any broad spectrum antibiotic will do at this point.

This is another good option, but I fear he will be dead before you would receive it in the mail: http://store.nationalfishpharm.com/Nitrofuracin-Green-59584.Item.html

I agree with bacterial infection as well. Act as quickly as you can without panic. These things can move quickly and kill quickly. Good luck!

Thanks everyone! Have him qt and all I have on hand is melafix. Will get the others first thing in the morning if he is still alive. He is my favorite fish so this particularly stinks.

Keep us posted on how he does.

Melafix is better than nothing until you can get some real meds.

How's he doing? I'm hoping you were able to get the meds to him. Best of luck!

No luck. He has passed. He was always my favorite which really stinks. I try to learn from everything that happens. From this I know now I should have acted sooner when I noticed he wasn't eating. Also I need to have these meds on hand which I do now.

Thanks everyone for the help.
