Coralline growth explodes. Seems to happen all of a sudden too.

Coraline Algae growth is a good indicator, but IMO one of the best signs your reef is healthy is when you can look close and see the Pods scuttling around on all your rock. If your tank will support the diversity of all the tiny crustaceans that make up the Pod family, you've done good. I also look for brittle stars and bristle worms. Very few of us intentionally add those to our tanks but we all end up with them sooner or later.
