What are the signs to look out for that you are winning? If any? Today I noticed the start of green film algae on the glass and pods for the first time in a long while!

I've been bubble scrubbing and Stiring the sand for about two weeks now trying to get it through my UV. I'm having to stir the sand about two times a day now compared to every two hours a few weeks ago.

My tank crashed in March due to Dino’s. I have turned into an algae farmer then, nuked, rebuild and still have some occasional bubbles on the wall, it’s a long fight. I am looking pretty good again in December. My friends are algae, even cyanobacter , vibrant, absence of effective skimming, absence of phosphate remover, UV sterilizer.
It sounds to me that you are getting closer. You changed the path in your favour, outcompeting them, but killing them all, that takes a long time.

I don’t really think you kill them all together more like suppress them keep them in check,

Sounds like you’re on the right track. Growing different algae is a great start and also make sure you keep nitrate and phosphate up.

Personally I had a huge cyano outbreak once I was coming to a tipping point of getting rid of my Dino’s. Like said about they are still in there but about 95% gone now I’m hoping to keep up with what I’ve been doing and everything can resume in my reefing career.
