Hello all! I just purchased a used tank that is plumbed with dual internal overflows. These overflows each have a single outlet that goes to a bulkhead and then what appears to be a Durso standpipe. After the standpipe there is braided PVC tubing that seems to be on the long side as there is some sag once it starts to go horizontal (as opposed to being a smooth and consistent downward slope). I am curious as to if I have any options for trying to make this drainage system quieter? I added a small hole to the black caps in the picture to make it more like the examples of Durso standpipes I have seen. Still a lot of gurgling primarily from the sump. Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can make it more quiet.

The noise is from too much flow going down the drains, pulling air with it. The easiest thing to do is slow down the return pump with a ball/gate valve on the pressure side.

Thank you for the information!

It seems like I should first resolve the gurgling sound via adjusting the angle of the tubing (came with the mesh vinyl tubing) to avoid any high points and adjusting the return pump flow rate. Then I can reduce overall noise via adjusting the air flow through the cap at the top of the standpipe. Does that sound correct?

The gurgling is air going down the drain pipe. You can play with the tubing if you want to see if it helps, but slowing down the return pump will fix the sound.

You may get lucky by drilling out the hole or sticking some airline tubing down the standpipe, but I would just slow down the return pump. You'll see.
