Silent, Vibration Free Protein Skimmer?

Hi folks,

Looking to update my decade-old Elos protein skimmer on my 90 gallon reef. This is a pretty low-load system so I do not need a super powerful skimmer, just a decent one. This will be in a sump, in a cabinet.

The most important thing for me is to get the quietest one available. Honestly care much more about low vibration and noise than I do about performance. Both would be nice of course.

So, what skimmers should I look at?

Nyos Quantum skimmers have a good reputation for being whisper quiet. A Nyos 120 might be a good fit.

Which one? There seem to be many models. The Regal has a DC pump, some say that is quiet?

I put a Deltec in my sump about a month ago. It’s an awesome skimmer and nearly completely quiet. The only thing I hear is a little noise from the air leaving the top. But I have to listen for that. When I first set it up I was opting the doors to check to make sure it was running.

Tunze 9410dc. Cant hear it run and its as set and forget as they come. Anti overflow and you dont need to turn off the pump to empty the cup.

Mine are new and they still make them just limited due to covid.

You'll have to figure out the size you want to employ. They all make some noise unless the power is off.

Reef Octo were mentioned. I run an external with the 3000 bubble blaster pump and it is quite but there is a lot of other pump noise in the sump.

The quietest skimmers I have run were Eschopps Cone skimmers. They are internal, and the only noise was the bubbles popping in the cone.

I have the 400i. They have daleson them every once in awhile. I bought mine in December. I think it was nearly $100.00 off.
