I'd like to start silica dosing, mainly to prevent my sponges from declining further (and hopefully encourage new growth).

My understanding from http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-05/rhf/index.htm is that it is ok to dose 1 ppm weekly, which would probably be consumed in roughly 4 days and would be low enough that I don't need to test (which is a definite bonus).

If I'm dosing a product with 37% weight silicate (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AS23ACY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ASE4PRNJM44Q0&psc=1, technical grade), and starting with 0.96 mL of 27% silicate in 100 gallons raises the silica concentration by 1 ppm, then I would add 0.32 mL of 37% solution for 1 ppm in a 43 gallon system?

I'd be adding this at roughly 10% of this volume weekly (0.03 mL/week), increasing by 10% weekly until I'm either at 1 ppm or getting diatoms/signs of problems.

I also need to buy some 1 mL syringes for accurate dosing.

I should be more comfortable with these calculations, but it's been a long, long while from Chemistry lab!

Am I thinking this through correctly? Thanks in advance!

Yes, that is correct. :)

Dosing amounts are also not critical for silicate,a nd you certainly can adjust up or down or alter the frequency to suit your system and expectations for it. :)
