Well after 30 days without, I broke down and did a 5g WC. Removing then returning new mix via the DT, albeit very slowly. I also vacuumed a little bit of the SB. I think I just may continue with vacuuming small areas at a time, possibly removing small amounts of sand at the same time.

No. But maybe thinning it out a little will help. I've got several Nassarius Snails, a Strawberry Conch and many Spaghetti Worms that depend on the sand. Plus I like it. [emoji2]

I got 2 margarita snails and they've been doing a good job. I need about 6 more to really put a dent in it though. Might get more next week.

My tank is almost completely devoid of algae so I'm pretty limited on snail species.
