I just received results back from my first ICP test. The RODI water results show silicon is very elevated, but the meter on the rodi unit and my handheld TDS meter still measure 0-1. Does this mean the DI resin needs replaced? I have had the rodi for about 5 months now. And make about 25g every 2 weeks. Not sure how/why there would be so much silicon, what the negative effects of that are, and how to make it right.

Spectrapure has a SilicaBuster DI cartridge to help with that.

I use their DI resins but have never tested.

Unless you believe you have a problematic level of diatoms, I would not do anything about it.

Do you have a tank Si reading?

I regularly dosed much more silicate than top off with that water will cause. It is not something that needs to be avoided in all cases.

See your reply above LOL

You are the MAN!

Doesn't silicate/phosphate also contribute to cyano bacteria? I always have cyano, particularly in my sump, and have similar ICP readings for my RODI (which i thought removed silicates). Even with a 0 TDS reading.

I have 3 stage di resin 1st is cation, 2nd is anion, and 3rd is mix bed. I know my silicates are high (well water) ive made about 200g of water since its start up. I have not done an icp yet the tds meter says 0 but who knows if its actually 0. My anion resin depletes very quickly, anion removes silicates. In those 200g ive used 1 full anion cartridge. No real diatoms after the first couple days. May help to add a anion resin cartridge just expect to go through it quickly.

Cyanobacteria do not consume any silicate.
